VIRGINIA MARCH MADNESS

The first round began with #14 ODU Monarchs as the first of the five Virginia teams to play on Thursday as they lost to #3 Purdue by a score 48-61. On Friday #8 VCU lost to #9 UCF 58-73, #1 UVA was predicted to be upsetted by #16 Gardner-Webb, except the ‘Hoos came out with a win 71-56, #4 VT took on #13 St. Louis and won 66-52, and #12 Liberty upsetted #5 Mississippi St. 80-76. The second round began on Saturday, but the Virginia teams didn’t play until yesterday, UVA took on Oklahoma and won by a score of 63-51 moving on to the Sweet 16 , and the Liberty Flames and Virginia Tech Hokies took their long rivalry to the tournament and at halftime the Flames were winning by a score of 32-29, but by the final buzzer the Hokies beat the Flames by a score of 57-58 moving on to the Sweet 16 with #1 Duke. Only two teams from the commonwealth remain in March Madness and advancing to the Sweet 16.

SCHOOL ATHLETICS (THE SPORTS ZONE)

 

  • Tuesday the varsity girls soccer won against Woodside 3-1

 

    • JV girls soccer tied 1-1 at home.
    • The varsity softball team falls to Woodside 15-6,
    • The varsity baseball lost at home to Woodside by a score of 12-1.

 

  • The JV baseball team wins against Woodside 11-1.
  • The JV softball team wins against Woodside 27-5.

 

    • Boys varsity soccer won against Woodside 3-1

 

  • JV wins with a shutout of 1-0.

 

    • Wednesday, the Kecoughtan boys varsity soccer lost to Maury in an away shutout of 0-4,
    • Thursday, varsity baseball and softball games at Woodside were cancelled due to weather.

 

  • Friday, varsity boys soccer won against Granby by an away shutout score of 1-0.

 

  • The girls varsity soccer team lost to Smithfield by a score of 0-4.
